About
Flower Power exhibition
In collaboration with the Kunsthalle München and with the exceptional support of the musée d’Orsay and the Centre Pompidou, the musée des impressionnismes Giverny invites you to discover an unprecedented exploration of the power of flowers, from Antiquity to the present day.
Inaugurated in February 2023 in Munich, the exhibition Flowers Forever, became Flower Power in Giverny. Enriched with a section on Impressionism, the exhibition presented great masters such as Bazille, Manet, Caillebotte and Cézanne.
What is the symbolism of the flower over the centuries? Beyond aesthetics and poetry, what messages did the artists seek to convey through the floral motif?
Flower Power offers to broaden our gaze thanks to thematic sections devoted to history and mythology, the relationship between science and art, religions, but also politics and economy.
The exhibition is the first project to present an interdisciplinary, intercultural and international vision of the history of flowers. It will bring together around a hundred works including masterpieces of paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, books, works of art, designer dresses, contemporary works and installations specially designed for museum galleries.
The musée des impressionnismes is embarking on a crazy and creative bet: making Giverny bloom until winter!
Curators: Cyrille Sciama, General Director of the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny, Chief Curator, and Valérie Reis, Head of Exhibitions at the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny.
